The Metropolitan Opera presents other operas in a rotating repertory schedule consisting of a wide range of works, ranging from 8th-century Baroque and 19th-century Bel canto to the late 20th and 21st century’s Minimalism. It is said to be the largest classical music organization in entire North America presenting approximately 27 different operas every year from September to May. The current music director of the company, as of 2018, is Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The Metropolitan Opera is operated by the non-profit Metropolitan Opera Association, where Peter Gelb serves as a general manager. The Met debuted in a brand-new building on 39th and Broadway and 1966, became a resident at the Metropolitan Opera House, located at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The opera company was formed as an alternative to the previously established Academy of Music opera house.
